Viet-AID Community Center opens.

(Oct.) It is located at 42 Charles Street. Officially the Vietnames American Initiative for Development, it is the first Vietnamese community center in the U.S. The organization was founded in 1994. Its purpose is “provide comprehensive economic development programs and services to alleviate poverty and advance civic participation in the Fields Corner Vietnamese community of Dorchester.”
